Helping Families Through Covid-19
In response to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy and Covid-19 closures, ACT Learning Centre will be offering free virtual support for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The ACT Learning Centre Therapists will be providing services to current clients through video conferencing. Additionally, therapists will provide free online workshops, virtual chat rooms and sessions designed for children, and consultations with autism professionals, including a Speech Language Pathologist and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. ACT will also offer free “Ask an Expert Coffee Hours” for parents to consult our therapists. These sessions will be available to all families, whether they are ACT clients or not. Establishing a Functional Play Space Seminar

The objective of this seminar is to support families and caregivers in developing play spaces that positively influence their child’s learning while embedding principles of ABA into the learning space. Attendees will have the opportunity to think about the current state of their play space and how it impacts their child’s play skill development. We will review what play is, why it is important, and how the environment can influence and change play behaviors.

Toileting Seminar

This mini seminar is perfect for parents of children who are not yet toilet trained. Learning to use the toilet can be challenging for children , especially those on the Autism Spectrum. The purpose of this seminar is to assist parents in toilet training at home. Emily will be presenting simple strategies to promote independent toileting routines. We will discuss topics such as how to know when your child is ready for toilet training, how to implement a toilet schedule and how to use visual aids to foster independence in toileting routines. Having your child at home all day is a perfect time to start the training process!
Managing Meltdowns & Challenging Behaviour Seminar With Dr. Mona Delahooke

We’re thrilled to introduce Dr. Mona Delahooke to our Seminar Series. Dr. Mona Delahooke is a psychologist, author and expert on addressing “meltdowns” and challenging behaviour. Dr. Delahooke’s new book Using Brain Science and Compassion to Understand and Solve Children’s Behavioural Challenges is regarded by experts as “revolutionary and important”. Dr. Delahooke has recently been interviewed in the media and she is recognized as an expert in the management of challenging behaviours. Treating the Whole Child with Dr. Ricki Robinson

Renowned Developmental Pediatrician, Dr. Ricki Robinson will present on Treating the Whole Child with Autism. Dr. Robinson will cover what a comprehensive treatment team and plan should look like for a child with autism and how a team should function to support the child with autism and their family. Dr. Robinson will also look at challenging behaviours from a multi-disciplinary perspective. There will be time for parents to ask their questions during and after the presentation.
